"'Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall coall him Emmanuel,' which means, 'God is with us.'" (Matthew 1:23, NRSV)
Each Wednesday we gather to deepen our faith through the scriptures. SVLC's current bible study examines the Gospel of Matthew, a text that frames Jesus as the "shekinah, the physical manifestation of the divine presence... the incarnation of the divine on earth" (The Jewish Annotated New Testament, p. 2).
Guided by Matthew's focus on Jesus as Emmanuel, we'll move slowly through the text together, pausing to listen for the Spirit of God at work in our reading. As we move through the text together we'll pause to occasionally examine Matthew's historical context, authorship, major themes, and audience.
All are welcome -- feel free to join in at any time.
